”They need space too!” is the motto under which an event for promoting free ranged and barned eggs will take place on the 7/10 (Sunday) 12pm in the establishment of Baba Qga (behind the statue of Soviet army). This initiative is to provoke customers in their choice of eggs. To change our customer attitudes in order to become humane buyers. And on the other hand the producers to improve the conditions for raising their poultry. At the moment in Bulgaria around 70% of the eggs are produced from hens raised in cages. In the cage, the birds stay one on top of the other, maim and hurt themselves, brake their bones and wings.
The European Union has defined this way for raising hens as inhumane. According to the EU recommendations the producers have to swap their cages for barn or free ranged raising. These are barn systems with flooring in which the hens move freely.
An event like this is organized for the first time in Bulgaria. It puts an emphasis on humane raising of poultry birds. During the event the volunteers will fry 500 barned and free-ranged eggs, provided by the supermarkets Pikadilli. These eggs will be distributed to all visitors and guests of the event. Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Board “Agrarian Development”, National Veterinary Service, Department European Integration, the Poultry Union, non-governmental organizations and citizens are all invited.
Welcome on 7th October (Sunday) at 12pm in Baba Qga to try together from the eggs of hens raised freely. Teodora Nacheva Intimate with Nature |
