Layer hens are industrially bred in the millions. More than 70 % of them are bred through the ‘in cage’ system. They are kept in very cramped cages in which they cannot move, because as many as five of them share the small space; pressed by iron gratings, they often break their wings and legs. The hens are force-fed food and antibiotics until the day they die.
We are looking for ways to inform people about opportunities for us all to be more humane in our food choices. There are eggs in our markets from hens, which were bred in better living conditions, kept in barns or in some cases with access to free range areas.
With very little effort a tremendous amount of suffering can be avoided.
