On the 19th and 20th of October, in the Boyana Residency, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food will organize, first of its kind, lecture-seminar on the topic: Good practices in solving the problem with the population of stray dogs in Bulgaria.
All 28 municipalities, represented by the Ecology Department Inspectors, will be presented. All Regional Veterinary Services are invited as well, directors of shelters for homeless dogs, private veterinarians and animal protection societies.
This Forum gathers for the very first time the parties, which has to cooperate in a common city program for managing the issues with homeless dogs. Main lectors will be Mr. Robert Couts Smith (GB) and Mrs. Natali Klinge (The Netherlands).
The following main topics will be discussed:
· How to count stray dogs.
· How to plan and calculate the capacity of a shelter according to the current population of stray dogs, accordingly to the human population of the city.
· How to control the population of stray dogs with modern methods.
· How to manage a shelter
· How to apply effectively adoption programs
Such training, in which municipal employees, veterinarians and activists are invited to discuss together a key problem related to animals, is been organized for the very first time.
The seminar has a practical purpose and can offer a priceless Know-How to the involved parties on the topic, as the problem has a lot of specific features unpopular in Bulgaria.
Good practices in solving the problem with the population of stray dogs in Bulgaria, will be opened in 10.30 on October the 19th in the Boyana Residency. Promoter of the event is the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in cooperation with Sofia Municipality, the Foundation for protection of municipality Dogs (FPCC) GB with the kind support of the Animal Rescue Bulgaria Foundation.
